AIM, the European Brands Association, co-signed, together with over 100 associations, an industry statement to call on EU Member States to ensure that the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) provides for a balanced framework between the environmental objectives and the principles of a unified European market.

In recent years, industries have witnessed a rise in national trade barriers due to divergent requirements imposed by Member States. If the PPWR allows Member States to adopt diverse sustainability and information requirements, this will inadvertently legitimise the creation of new trade barriers, compromising the integrity of the EU Single Market and the free movement of goods.

AIM calls on EU Member States to align with the European Parliament on key issues and uphold the principles of the EU Single Market when they adopt the General Approach on the PPWR.
