According to reports the Commission work programme to be adopted next week may no longer contain a proposal on the circular economy, including the revision of EU waste legislation. Branded goods manufacturers represented by AIM are in favour of a sustainable growth package. The circular economy concept makes both environmental and economic sense – to manage scarce resources carefully and to re-inject them into the economy rather than letting them go to waste. The proposals which are currently on the table are an opportunity to achieve this, subject to further improvements as outlined in the commentary below by the packaging chain forum.
