AIM FEEDBACK: European Commission’s public consultation on Better Regulation

Positions
5 Feb 2026

Brussels, 5 February 2026 – AIM shares its recommendations for clearer, more robust and efficient EU policymaking

AIM welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback and recommendations to the European Commission on its upcoming Communication on Better Regulation.

For the EU to deliver on its ambitions for competitiveness, innovation and sustainability, any initiative should be developed through a robust, transparent and evidence-based policy and decision-making process. Drawing on our recent experience, AIM recommends that:

  • “Single Market test” is applied throughout the policy cycle to ensure EU rules do not weaken or fragment the internal market.
  • Policy measures are built on solid economic impact assessments to avoid imposing unintended, excessively burdensome requirements.
  • Measures are designed holistically, reflecting businesses’ complexities and supply chains, with realistic and synchronised compliance timelines.
  • Application dates are linked to the adoption of relevant secondary legislation to avoid shortening compliance timeframes for companies.
  • Implementing or supporting documents to EU law, such as secondary legislation, guidelines, standards and FAQ, are published well in advance of the legislation’s application date, to provide companies with the legal certainty needed to plan investments and compliance.
  • Implementing measures, guidelines, or FAQ remain within the scope of the primary legislation.
  • Consultations provide sufficient time for stakeholders to submit technical and detailed input.
