Brussels, 8 September 2026 – AIM – European Brands Association, together with 19 other European industry associations, is calling on the European Commission to make it easier for companies to provide regulatory product information digitally. The joint statement brings together 20 organisations from sectors including consumer goods, electronics, appliances, fashion, cosmetics, packaging, furniture and lighting.
Today, many products sold in the EU must still come with printed manuals, safety information and other regulatory documents. These requirements can increase costs, create unnecessary waste and make it more complicated for companies to sell products across the Single Market.
The 20 associations are calling for companies to be able to provide this information digitally, either alongside or, where appropriate, instead of physical information. Digital solutions such as QR codes could give consumers easy access to up-to-date information in their preferred language while reducing printing, packaging and waste.
The upcoming revision of the EU’s New Legislative Framework (NLF) provides an opportunity to introduce a consistent approach across EU product legislation. The associations are calling on the European Commission to establish a clear legal basis for digital regulatory information while maintaining physical information where necessary.
